October is a winning month!

Hot on the trail of receiving six awards for great tasting beer at the New Zealand Brewers Guild earlier on this month Black Sands Brewing wins again. Last Thursday night Black Sands Brewers were proud recipients of the 2016 Westpac Business Award for Marketing Excellence in the West Auckland region. Ian received the award from Rick Ede, CE of Unitec, and a mighty fine looking award it is too.

The results are out.......

The results of the prestigious 2016 New Zealand Brewers Guild Awards were announced on Saturday night at the Langham Hotel in Auckland. We at Black Sands Brewery were very happy to receive 6 medals from 8 beers entered. We received 1 Silver and 5 Bronze medals this year, and although we did not get a Gold like we did last year, our performance was an improvement overall.

The Black Sands range received a Silver for the New Zealand Pale Ale and Bronzes for both the Pacific Red and the American Pale Ales. Here’s to next year!

Something's Brewing!

Fresh Hop NZ 2015 has now been and gone and was thoroughly enjoyed by all concerned. Ten different beers brewed by 14 local brewers and not a bad one amongst them. This is an excellent event that brings some interest, excitement and variety into the craft beer market and I’m looking forward to Fresh Hop NZ 2016.

Another thing I’m looking forward to in the launch of our new ale, Black Sands New Zealand Pale Ale.

It’s a 5% abv pale ale made from a base of pale ale and Munich malts. This gives a delicate orangey hue, a crisp white head and a rich biscuit taste which provides a full bodied platform for the Pacifica and Motueka hops. With lemon/lime and orange marmalade notes, combined with layers of tropical fruit and a subtle floral fragrance, this is a beer that can be enjoyed at any time.

With the weather cooling down it’s also time to start looking out for those delicious dark winter ales.

What's been happening?

It is already April and so much has happened here at Black Sands!

For starters, we have our website up and running. Thank you to our marketing intern from Unitec. We hope you guys like it!

This year we are proud to be part of #freshhopnz15 doing collaboration brew with Weezledog Brewing Company. This special brew will be available from the 23rd of April at No. 1 Queen Street, The Block, Golden Dawn and the Corner Bar- keep your eye out!

We are also going to be running our first-ever social media competition on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. They will be separate competitions so make sure you look out for the posts on how to enter.

What is also exciting is CraftBeerOnline.co.nz is supplying our beers, freshly poured from our taps which means you guys can order enough beer for your next big TV sports party at your home and for your BBQs.

Keep an eye-out on our blog. More to come!
